Japan wordt vaak als vanzelfsprekend aangenomen als een 'High-Tech' land; gekenmerkt door bekende merken als Sony, Toyota, Fuji en Honda. Door middel van het benaderen van 'High-Tech' Japan met 'Low-Tech' middelen worden bezoekers willen wij bezoekers andere aspecten van deze ogenschijnlijke tegenstelling laten zien. De ruimte van Roodkapje doet dienst als een soort tijdmachine waarin men er niet zo zeker van is of men nu vooruit in de tijd gaat of juist achteruit. Wij willen het publiek laten zien dat, de ogenschijnlijk tegenstrijdige componenten, het traditiebesef en het innovatiestreven van een land als Japan eigenlijk niet zo ver uit elkaar liggen maar zelfs uit elkaar geboren zijn.
Een belangrijk punt in de ontwikkeling van traditioneel tot innovatief in Japan is de invloed van het Westen. Een belangrijke reden waarom wij in de tentoonstelling werk van kunstenaars uit Japan en uit het Westen presenteren.
Japan is usually seen as a high tech country, synonymous with companies such as Sony, Toyota, Fuji and Honda. By approaching a high tech country in low-tech ways we want to show visitors the components found within the culture of Japan. With this exhibition we want to bring people more close to the processes of 'invention' by showing contemporary art made with modest techniques but with a high ideal and process. The exhibition space of Roodkapje will, in a way, be transformed into some sort of time machine in which we don't exactly know if we are ahead or behind in time. We want to show that tradition and innovation in a country such as Japan are actually not so distant from each other, perhaps even born from each other. A major factor in the development of traditional to innovative Japan has been the influence of the western. This is also an important reason to show works of artists from Japan alongside those of the West.

ADACHI Tomomi (JP)
Een veelzijdig artiest, hij is performer en composer van onderandere geïmproviseerde muziek met 'voice', sensoren, live elektronica computer en zelf gemaakte instrumenten.
Only one performer of sound poetry in Japan. He also makes visual art work by using electronic equipment, associate with great deal of wit.
ISHIDA Takashi (JP)
ISHIDA is bekend om zijn animatie's in welke hij het besef van tijd en plaats onderzoekt. Wij gaan een fundamentele animatie van hem tonen ontstaan door het verstrijken van tijd met een overlap tussen werkelijkheid en illusie.
ISHIDA's work is animation, which explores the basic notions of time and space using sequential pictures. We are going to present his fundamental animation made with a drawing on wall of a room.
NOTO Meiko (JP)
Met haar stille films creëert NOTO een prachtig poëtische sfeer, gebruik makend van 8 mm film.
NOTO creates a high sense of sentimental and poetic atmosphere by using silent 8mm movies.
Tom THIJSSE (NL)
Hij is bekend vanwege zijn meesterlijke beheersing van de houtsnede techniek. Niet alleen in Nederland, maar ook in Japan. Zijn techniek heeft raakvlak met de sfeer van Ukiyou, een Japanse stijl van houtsnede.
He associates with the atmosphere of Ukiyoe, a Japanese traditional style of engraving. THIJSSE also remakes Japanese anthology with his wooden engraving.
YORIO Sayako (JP)
Zij combineert momenteel verschillende vormen van kunst uiting z.a. illustraties, schilderen, formeel kunst, typografie, kalligrafie, performance improvisatie (fysieke uitdrukking), muziek, en video om een informele installatie atmosfeer te creëren. Haar wortels liggen in de Japanse subcultuur en de hedendaagse kunst.
Currently combining all kinds of art forms such as illustration, painting, formal art, typography, calligraphy, improvisation performance, music and video to create an informal installation atmosphere.
Yomar AUGUSTO (NL)
Zijn werk is multi gelaagd en multi disciplinair. Hij probeert er dieper in door te gaan door het combineren van fotografie met illustraties, schilderen, zijde prints, computer, kalligrafie, typografie, collage, water en vuur.
His work is multi-layered and multidisciplinary . 'I'm trying to get in depth on it by mixing photography with illustration, painting, silkscreen, computer, calligraphy, typography, collage, fire and water'.
