Een dansante verkenningstocht door het geheugen Herinneren blijkt meer door het geheugen bepaald te worden dan door het werkelijke verleden. Ons geheugen is maar voor 10 procent bewust, wat betekent dat ons onderbewustzijn van enorm belang is in ons dagelijks handelen. Danseres IKEDA Fumiyo zoekt naar manieren om vergeten gebeurtenissen terug te halen. Ze laat flarden tekst horen en korte dansfragmenten zien. Zo probeert ze structuur in haar herinneringen te krijgen door lijstjes te maken. Dat spel met de kettingreactie die je van de ene in de andere herinnering brengt, levert een intrigerende voorstelling op. De Japanse IKEDA danst sinds de oprichting in 1983 bij Anne Teresa de KEERSMAEKERS gezelschap Rosas. Bij uitzondering gaat ze andere samenwerkingen aan, zoals in 2008 met Benjamin VERDONCK en Alain PLATEL voor Nine Finger, een harde en aangrijpende voorstelling over kindsoldaten. Ditmaal is Tim ETCHELLS van de Britse theatergroep Forced Entertainment haar sparring partner. Dat IKEDA naast een danseres van iconische proporties ook een getalenteerde actrice is, bewijst ze met in pieces.
The body becomes a stranger for itself. Hands no longer know where they belong, feet make mistakes, gestures end in a question mark, words loose their way. You watch yourself, this collection of limbs, and wonder what all this actually means. Tim ETCHELLS departed from a KAFKA fragment that really moved him: “I think we should only read the books that hit and hurt us. … a book should be like an axe that crushes the frozen sea within us.” He invited the 'Rosas' dancer IKEDA Fumiyo, whom he greatly admires, to create a dance based on the words from the last sentence: axe, crushes, sea, frozen, within us. They spoke about remembering and forgetting, about time and explosions, about words and movement, about finding and failing.

YAMAMOTO Yu
Born in Kyoto, he began dancing under MIZUTANI Mitsuru, after coming up to Tokyo he studied under ORITA Katsuko. Now his activity and work is centered on Tokyo, Kansai and Europe.

YAMAMOTO Yu won in 2006 de 'Rookie of the Year Award' en in 2007 de prestigieuze Dance Plan Prize van de Contemporary Dance Association of Japan, en is nu in Nederland voor een artist in residence programma. Tijdens CAMERA JAPAN 2009 presenteert YAMAMOTO Yu drie nieuwe stukken: Mosaic Gentleman, Swan en Cynical Moon, alle drie locatie-specifieke optredens die op verrassende plaatsen worden uitgevoerd. Een uitgelezen kans om dit jonge talent aan het begin van zijn veelbelovende carrière aan het werk te zien.
After winning the 'Rookie of the Year Award' in 2006 and the 'Dance Plan Prize' in 2007 from the 'Contemporary Dance Association of Japan', YAMAMOTO Yu is currently on a residence program in the Netherlands. During CAMERA JAPAN 2009, he will present three new pieces: 'Mosaic Gentleman', 'Swan' & 'Cynical Moon'.
