Komaneko woont met haar opa op een heuvel en houdt van poppetjes maken om deze vervolgens te laten schitteren in haar eigen stop-motion animatiefilmpjes. Daarom heet ze Koma (een film frame voor frame schieten) en Neko (kat). Komaneko maakt veel nieuwe vriendjes, maar wanneer haar lievelingspoppetje wordt gepikt door een niet zo heel verschrikkelijke sneeuwman, is ze vastberaden haar terug te krijgen! Deze film zonder spraak is met zijn bijzondere muziek deel van ons speciale kinderprogramma tijdens de Kid's Day voor kinderen vanaf 3 jaar.

Komaneko, living with her grandfather on a hill, is a kitten who loves to make dolls and uses them for her stop motion animation films. Therefore her name is Koma (to shoot a movie frame by frame), and Neko (cat). Komaneko makes lots of new friends, but when one of her dolls appears to be kidnapped by a not-so-terrible snowman, she is determined to get her back! This silent film accompanied by an amazing sound score is part of our special Kid's Day program for children from 3 years old.

GODA Tsuneo GODA (*1967) is the founding director of Dwarf Animation Studio, which produces and creates characters and their animations. His most famous contribution to the Japanese character industry is undoubtedly Domo-kun, the mascot of the NHK television station. Komaneko is the studio's first feature film, made especially for the very little ones.

De jonge Koichi vindt een fossiel van een Japanse “kappa”, een mythisch wezen dat een kruising is tussen een schilpad en een reptiel met magische krachten dat wel van een potje sumoworstelen houdt. Coo, zoals hij hem noemt, is 200 jaar eerder versteend geraakt bij een aardbeving. Samen met Coo gaat Koichi op zoek naar zijn soortgenoten op plekken waar ze volgens lokale legendes zouden leven. Maar als Coo een nationale bekendheid wordt in Japan, moet hij zijn eigen verleden, heden en toekomst onder ogen zien en een keuze maken tussen zijn nieuwe beste vriend en zijn eigen aard.

Young Koichi finds a fossilized mythical water spirit, a kappa, which is something between a turtle and a reptile with mystical powers and a love for Sumo wrestling. He names it Coo, who has been entrapped for 200 years after an earthquake. Coo wants to find other kappa, so with Koichi he travels to places where they are supposed to live according to local legends. However, after becoming a national celebrity, Coo is forced to face his own past, present and future and has to make a choice between his new friend and his own nature.

HARA Keiichi HARA(*1959) is a well known anime director through his work at SHIN-EI Animation and his direction from 1993 onwards of all the Crayon Shin-chan anime series and films. Summer Days With Coo won the Grand Prize for Animation at the 11th Japan Media Arts Festival and was considered the best Feature Film at the 2008 Tokyo Anime Award.
