After the Quake

Op het After the Quake gedeelte van Camera Japan willen we aandacht geven aan de ramp die Japan afgelopen maart trof, maar nu nog doorwerkt. Al onze bezoekers krijgen de kans hun gevoelens over deze ramp in een eigen tekening, tekst, foto, of alles wat er maar op papier te maken is, in te zenden. Wij zullen dit vervolgens, samen met de internationale inzendingen en alles wat er tijdens het festival gemaakt wordt, op een mooie manier ophangen, waardoor een muur van herinnering ontstaat, waarin we met elkaar een zeer persoonlijke waardevolle boodschap naar het land sturen dat ons festival al jaren inspireert.
With After the Quake we want to show our compassion to all those who suffered because of the disaster which struck Japan last march. All visitors of the festival can express their feelings about the events in Japan by submitting a photograph, poem, drawing, or whatever medium. All the submissions, sent in before the festival or made during the festival, will be displayed in a special installation during the festival. By doing this, we want to create a wall of remembrance, sending a most precious and personal message to the country which has inspired our festival for years.

Tokyo Species by YAMADA Kaoru

Het is een genot om door Japan's hoofdstad wandelen. De metropool is een samensmelting van veel verschillende wijken, met allemaal hun eigen karakter en dus ook hun typische eigen bewoners. Fotograaf YAMADA Kaoru ging voor ons de straat op en legde de meest opvallende Tokyo-soorten vast. Ze zijn tijdens het festival levensgroot te bewonderen.
It's a very big pleasure to wander in Japan's capital. All its neighborhoods seem like small cities, with their own character and their own typical residents. Photographer YAMADA Kaoru hit the streets for us and took pictures of the most remarkable Tokyo Species. They will be shown at the festival, bigger than you may be expecting.
Goth Loli Fashion Show

Ooit de Lolita-gothic-mode-fanaten bij het Yoyogi Park in Tokyo gezien? Deze subcultuur staat hoog aangeschreven bij trendwatchers en is een vaste prik op de agenda van toeristen uit Japan en daarbuiten. Wij brengen de Yoyogi ervaring naar Rotterdam met een modeshow door Lolita meisjes, zo gekleed dat je het nooit vergeet. Kawaii!
Have you ever seen the Lolita-gothic-fashion-boys and girls at Tokyo's Yoyogi Park? This sub-culture has a very high status among trend watchers and is an all time favourite of tourists from both Japan and abroad. We will bring the real Harajuku experience to Rotterdam with a fashion show by ten Dutch Lolita girls, dressed so you'll never forget. Kawaii!

Ook voor niet-architecten valt de grote diversiteit in gebouwen en bouwwerken, die willekeurig te lijken neergezet, op bij een bezoek aan Japan. Deze lezing door een deskundige behandelt verschillende aspecten van de hedendaagse Japanse architectuur en stadscultuur om inzicht te geven op de opmerkelijke mix van gebouwen in Japanse steden.
Even the uninitiated in architecture will notice when visiting Japan, the variation in buildings and constructions, which often seem to be haphazardly planted without any consideration for their surroundings. The tall modern buildings with unconvential mixes of styles which are put next to low traditional housing, contrast strongly with the strict building regulations in the Netherlands which in turn results in more uniform constructions. Before the screening of 5 short films, Jacob van Rijs will hold a lecture about MVRDV's built and unrealized projects in Japan and his personal observations and experiences on architecture and urbanism "Made in Japan".
