DATES & VENUES CONFIRMED FOR CAMERA JAPAN 2011

The dates and venues for the 6th edition festival are confirmed. The Rotterdam event takes place this year from 22 to 25 September at LantarenVenster. Prior to the main festival, we have several events that are in making. We will announce these events in coming days via this website and our Facebook page. So please keep your eyes and ears open.
In Amsterdam, the main event takes place from 30 September to 02 October at Kriterion, and the retrospective program is screened at Melkweg from 29 September to 05 October.
This year’s theme will be ‘Made in Japan?’, in which we will be looking for what can be called ‘Japanese’ and what can’t. You can expect Japanese films with strong western influence, surprising combinations of artists on stage and other program parts which will put the borders of Japan and the western world to the test.
CAMERA JAPAN INITIATIVE: "AFTER THE QUAKE"

2011 will be an unforgettable year for CAMERA JAPAN, unfortunately for a very sad reason.
We will be paying attention to the big disaster that has struck Japan in March this year: the big earthquake followed by a devastating tsunami, which ravaged parts of Japan, taking many lives, leaving many without home. The problem still continues today with the uncertain situation surrounding the nuclear power plant in Fukushima.
In the light of disastrous events and hardships in Japan since March 11th, we have initiated a project "After the Quake".
This is an (art) initiative where we encourage everyone to submit their own form of expression on how they feel about what happened in Japan during the quake disaster and what has been happening afterwards. And the submission will be exhibited during our festival in the Netherlands as a special installation, for which audience at the venue is also welcome to participate and add their work on site. We are planning to post all the submission on our online gallery afterwards as well.
Please download your submission form to get more further details and find out how to submit to take part in this initiative.
We hope that you can participate in this project and please do forward this form to everyone you think would be interested.
Our submission deadline is 15 September, 2011.
Sincerely,
CAMERA JAPAN Team.

GANBARE TOHOKU (HANG IN THERE, TOHOKU) PROJECT.
Days have passed since the great earthquake in Japan. The death toll at the time of this posting is more than 13,000, and another 15,000 remain unaccounted for. Evacuation shelters are temporary home to 200,000.
CAMERA JAPAN has been taking part in GANBARE TOHOKU PROJECT, initiated by EU-JAPAN Festival Committee, our long time supporter and good friends in Tokyo, and we'd like to invite you to take part as well. The idea is for everyone around the world to take pictures of themselves holding up a sign that says "Ganbare Tohoku" (Hang in there, Tohoku) and send these photos to Japan, so that they can be forwarded to people fighting the good fight on the ground and to victims of the earthquake and tsunami. Attached is the examples of the images we've received so far. Our goal is to collect 10,000 of them.
Japan is in distress, but despite the fact that the media is sensationalizing and over-emphasizing on the nuclear disaster part and not enough on the victims anymore, Japanese people are confronting this grim reality with level-headed mutual assistance and have started on the road to recovery. Monetary donation is good, but what they need most of all just now is courage, determination, and grit. We are confident that these photographs will go a long way to sparking this courage in all of us throughout Japan.
If you would like to take part in this project, please download the "Ganbare Tohoku" sign from the link below, print it or use it the way you'd like to create something, then send the pictures/images with the subject name "Ganbare Tohoku!" to: tohoku@camerajapan.nl.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
AARDBEVING IN JAPAN
REGARDING THE SITUATION IN JAPAN
We are shocked by the damage and the personal suffering caused by the earthquake and the following tsunami of March 11th. The situation at the nuclear plants in Fukushima must give a lot of Japanese a feeling of uncertainty.
Hereby we express our sympathy and support to all those who lost friends and family, and to those who are directly affected by these natural catastrophes. Our thoughts go out to our family, friends and relatives in Japan.
We are trying hard to find ways to incorporate these happenings in a considerate and respectable manner at this year's edition of Camera Japan.
東北関東大地震の被害について

私たちは現在、これから先今年9月の開催期間にかけて、そして開催後においても、私たちがどのような形で日本の被害者の方々への支援を行い、お力になれるのかという事を懸命に検討中です
